Geoff was born on the edge of the Dartmoor National Park in Tavistock, Devon in SW England. His father being in the British Forces, Geoff was raised in India, Uganda, and the UK. After school and national service in the Royal Marines, he immigrated to Tanzania where he worked for 28 years as a Tea Planter with the Brooke Bond Company. Geoff and wife Vicky's four sons were all born and raised in Mufindi. In 1987, Geoff retired from Tea Planting and took over management of Mkawja Ranch (149,000 acres) in Pangani District of Tanzania. While at Mkwaja, Geoff and Vicky supported their sons in the development of a farm in Mufindi. He retired permanently in 1995 and now lives on the family farm in Mufindi.

Geoff has always been active in Tanzania's wildlife management and social development. In 1984 he founded the Friends of Ruaha Society which played a crucial role in the survival of the Ruaha National Park during the economic collapse following the Tanzanian Government's dalliance in socialist ideals. Geoff then promoted a hunting ban at Mkwaja and the creation of a government anti-poaching force. The Tanzanian Government followed this example by legislating a District-wide hunting ban. This ban still protects a unique ecosystem inhabited by Roosevelt's Sable antelope which is reputed to be the rarest antelope in the World. The protected area also contains the last population of elephants found along Tanzania's Indian Ocean shore line. Geoff also established Tanzania's first Green Turtle hatchery near the city of Tanga. His dream to preserve the Mkwaja ecosystem for posterity has recently been achieved with the help of his son Bruce. The Mkwaja Area has now been designated as Tanzania's newest National Park.
